How do you see your future

Golden Rules

  • Make sure you have your answers exactly right before you start filling in the form. You have the opportunity to print out all of the questions before you even start typing in your answers. It is a good idea to check your spelling before you press submit.

  • Do not try and write a set of standard answers for every application, it does not work. The firms you are applying to will spot it straight away.

  • If there is insufficient room in the fields provided, please use the further information free text box at the end of the application form. Don’t be tempted to send lots of extra information or post paper certificates, which you think we may find useful if they haven’t been requested. Your ability to answer the questions in a succinct manner is one of the skills we are looking at.

  • Read through everything before you send it to us. Spelling errors, mistyped or missing words, grammar and punctuation mistakes are not a good advertisement for your attention to detail - a skill which lawyers pride themselves on.

  • Answer the questions on the form. Don’t be tempted leave questions out or write a general response.

  • Use your own words. Recruiters (believe it or not) do not thrive on reading CV language on application forms e.g. "I am an enthusiastic team player and I also work well using my own initiative. I am used to working to tight deadlines. I have good communication skills and interpersonal skills."

Martineau, like many other firms, use an individual application form. The main reason for this, is that it enables us to make direct comparisons between applicants. When you are completing the Martineau form, your aim should be to not only convince us that you are capable of being a trainee but that you are also ideally suited to Martineau.
