How do you see your future

Many potential trainees are attracted to Martineau because they have the best of both worlds: City work with the option to progress in niche areas without the City life style, Martineau is renowned for being a friendly and open place to work. Another bonus for our trainees is that they join a firm which is large enough to give them all the commercial experience they need, but small enough to ensure that they will remain an individual and not end up being just a number.

The vast majority of our trainees remain with Martineau and qualify into the area of their choice. There is plenty of help and guidance on the journey through each trainee's contract and often initial ideas about where a trainee sees themselves working in two years are completely changed by the time the qualification is just around the corner.

Smita Jamdar, Education Partner

"The firm has a healthy balance of work and life commitments encouraged from trainee upwards. I myself have taken advantage of flexible working arrangements and with two young children, it has been invaluable."
Smita Jamdar, Education Partner and former Martineau Trainee.

Career prospects at Martineau are excellent. We have 48 partners (many of whom trained with the firm), a third of our partners are under the age of 40. The departments are team orientated which means that newly qualified solicitors are given every opportunity to progress in their chosen field and are not lost within a huge department. There is plenty of scope to progress into niche areas and become an expert at an early stage in a newly qualified's career.

All in all, Martineau is good news not only for trainees, but for qualified solicitors too.

David Browne

"I qualified into the Employment Department in September 2007. Having trained at Martineau I really wanted to remain at the firm. The firm's commitment to you demonstrated during your training contract carries forward to your career as a qualified solicitor, and there is a distinct advantage to staying at the firm you train with. It enables you to hit the ground running upon qualification.

The Employment Department is a friendly and vibrant team with an impressive portfolio of clients ranging from large plc's to educational establishments. The work is varied and exciting, and employment law is a fast moving and contemporary discipline. You also get a good mixture of contentious and non contentious work.

The emphasis is very much on training and early responsibility and you are made to feel a part of the team from the word go. I would highly recommend a seat here!"
David Browne, Trainee Solicitor 2005 - 2007 - Qualified into the Employment & Pensions Team in 2007
